The original Food Connect was founded by Robert Pekin in Brisbane. He envisaged a large community shared agriculture enterprise that could develop a local and regional food system for South-East Queensland.
There was no seeding capital put forward to start and grow such a venture, and so Robert took to the road enlisting farmers and potential subscribers. Food Connect started in 2004 with its now widely recognised City Cousin system that provide the drop off points for the food grown by our farmers.
The energy and sheer persistence provided by Robert and many other people committed to implementing a food system better for both the farmers and the environment has allowed Food Connect to grow to the point now where the Brisbane FoodConnect are distributing almost a thousand boxes a week. Food Connect systems like this one here in Adelaide, are growing around the country.
Mission:
We are a socially and environmentally progressive organisation dedicated to connecting consumers and farmers. We believe that current methods of growing and distributing food are deeply flawed. We are actively working on practical solutions to overcome these serious problems. We are passionate about:
A fair go for farmers
Eating locally grown and produced food!
Eating seasonally
Ecologically sustainable food production
We will be delivering fresh, sustainable, local food to your local area.
Food Connect creates healthier communities through the understanding that food connects people to their environment and to each other.
Farmers receive a fair price for their produce, which helps them to use sustainable and eco-efficient methods.
We are passionate about providing you with fresh, seasonal, nutritious and affordable food.
Food Connect Adelaide anticipates starting full delivery in Febuary 2010. If you are interested in becoming a farmers, a city cousin or a subscriber, go the the relevant tab at the top of the page.
